Finch Hattons Camp in Tsavo West national park is named after Denys Finch Hatton, one of the early British explorers, conservationists and safari pioneers. Denys Finch Hatton was also a great hunter of colonial Kenya who introduced royalty to the Bush.

Finch Hattons Camp is situated in the Tsavo West National park, a known traditional home of the African Elephant and all the members of the big 5 (lions, elephants, cape buffaloes, leopards and rhinos). The park is a rich wildlife retreat where animals roam freely in the unfenced savannah plains, the camp is perfectly positioned to give you terrific views of both Mount Kilimanjaro and magnificent views of Chyulu Hills. The volcanic past of area is witnessed in the Shetani “The Devil” lava flow which is an 8 kilometers long, 1.6 kilometers wide and 5 kilometers deep.

The landscape of Tsavo West National park varies from open grasslands, scrublands and acacia woodlands to swathes of riverine vegetation and rocky ridges. The park hosts a diversity of wildlife including buffalo, bushbuck, eland, giraffe, hartebeest, impala, leopard, lions, Oryx, wildebeest, zebra, hippo, black rhino among others and over 500 bird species.

  • By road, The Camp is approximately a 4-hour drive from Nairobi city and 5-hour drive from Mombasa.
