Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge Rwanda

Sabyinyo silverback lodge is a beautiful and comfortable lodge in Virunga national park used by travelers on a Rwanda mountain gorilla trekking safari in Virunga national park, Sabyinyo silverback lodge is the first ever community owned lodge in Rwanda built and operated by Governors’ Camp Collection. Sabyinyo silverback lodge is partly owned by the Community Trust , SACOLA (Sabyinyo Community Livelihood Association) and the contributions or fees from the lodge are used by the community to drive socio-economic and conservation initiatives in the communities situated adjacent to Volcanoes national park.

Sabyinyo silverback lodge is located close to the headquarters of Volcanoes national park and situated on the foothills of the mighty chain Virunga volcanoes which are stretching through Rwanda, Uganda and Democratic republic of Congo.  Sabyinyo silverback lodge boosts spectacular views of the volcanoes and the surrounding beauty of the country side of Rwanda.


Sabyinyo silverback lodge consists of a main lodge building housing the lodge’s reception, sitting room with a snug area, dining rooms, library and games room, a room dedicated to community awareness a and a responsible tourism. The lodge also has 3 large fireplaces providing warmth, two patio areas boosting wonderful and dramatic views of the spectacular Virunga Volcanoes and the surrounding lowland farmland, the rooms in the cottages at Sabyinyo silverback lodge have a polished wooden floors.

Sabyinyo silverback lodge is located adjacent to Volcanoes national park in the north-western region of Rwanda approximately 3 kilometers from the park’s main entrance and lies in a drive of 2 hours’ drive from Kigali the capital city of Rwanda.

Accommodation at Sabyinyo silverback lodge

Sabyinyo silverback lodge offers accommodation in a total of 6 cottages, two suites and one family cottages, all these cottages are spacious and have high privacy  and they comprise of sheltered verandas, large sitting room with a fireplace, spacious bedroom, dressing rooms and en-suite stylish bathroom with venetian plaster finishing and a dressing room. Cottages at the Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge and other buildings at the lodge are built using stones and roofed with Rwandese terracotta tile roofs.

The family cottage at Sabyinyo silverback lodge comprises of two independent en suite rooms which are connected by a shared verandah, heat exchangers in the fireplaces provide a plentiful supply of hot water.

En-suite bathrooms at Sabyinyo silverback lodge’s bathrooms consists of a lovely range of “cinnabar Green ” toiletries including shampoo, conditioner, shower get, soap and body lotion. These products are refilled into reusable metal canisters as one of the ways of reducing on the plastic waste at the lodge, there are also handmade in Kenya from nature ingredients thus keeping up with the sensitive environment in which they are used.

Bar at Sabyinyo silverback lodge is fully stocked with a range of international and local brands of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink, the bar has speakers with smooth music playing for your entertainment.
