Rwanda Chimpanzee Tracking Permits : Chimpanzee trekking is one of the amazing primate activities to do in Rwanda, only done in Nyungwe National Park which is ranked among the best chimpanzee trekking destinations in Africa.
Nyungwe National Park is located in western Rwanda protecting one of the world’s most beautiful and pristine rainforests, the park is dominated by a series of mountains that originate from northern Uganda and Congo, running south through the Rwenzori Mountains, western Rwanda and Burundi to the shores of Lake Tanzanyika.
Nyungwe National Park has three communities that are habituated and open for chimpanzee trekking safaris, a maximum of 8 people per group are allowed to visit each chimpanzee group per day. On a daily, a total of 24 chimpanzee trekking permits are available for booking. Since each traveler intending to visit Nyungwe Forest for chimpanzee trekking must have a chimpanzee permit, the available permits are enough compared to the demand.
It is recommended to book your chimpanzee trekking permits about 3-4 months in advance.

Chimpanzee tracking permit fees for Nyungwe National Park does not include park fees which are paid independently.

What are the terms for buying a Rwanda Chimpanzee Trekking Permit?
- Only persons aged 16 years and above are allowed to participate in chimpanzee trekking in Rwanda
- When booking a chimpanzee permit, tourists are required to send a copy of their passport (for the international tourists) or identity card for Rwanda citizens and citizens of East African communities. The passports and national cards will be used to confirm and verify the age of the tourists and their status.

When I do I buy the chimpanzee trekking permit?
Since there is a limited number of chimpanzee permits (24) issued on a daily for Nyungwe National Park, you have to book your permit as soon as possible even in a year in advance.
Note: Rwanda has high tourism from July to September when the permits sell out quickly, if you are planning to visit Rwanda for chimpanzee trekking during these months, consider booking your permits in advance.
