Plastic free- safari : The “GO GREEN” campaign, which aims to rescue the planet by using less plastic, has seen significant advancements in both Africa and the global community. By doing this, the amount of waste and air pollution caused by burning used plastic bags is reduced. African nations have welcomed this move. Rwanda is the finest example, having outlawed plastic in 2008. Since then, Kigali has received recognition as one of the world’s cleanest cities. Ecosystems may be rebuilt and the environment can readily recover when plastic trash is reduced.

The only way to eliminate plastic is to adopt little, daily changes. While there are numerous ways to cut back on plastic trash at home or at work, the focus of this article is on how to cut waste or even completely eliminate it while on a Uganda Safari or Rwanda safari with us. This is how you can go on a safari without using plastic.

  1. Reusable Water Bottles.

When travelling a long distance, a personal reusable bottle will come in useful. The hotel or other accommodation facility where you are staying always has boiling water available. The trash produced when water is used and the plastic water bottles now have to be disposed of is the issue with packaged water. When this kind of plastic finds its way into a park, it damages the ecosystem and all of the plants and animals that call it home. Certain animals may even choke on plastic bottle caps if they believe they are edible. Investing in a larger bottle of packaged water will still be a more thoughtful choice if your lodge is unable to provide you with clean, boiling water. The larger bottle can be used numerous times for refills.

  1. Plastic free- safari : Mindful Packing.

Certain minor items, including pants and toiletries, are best carried separately when travelling. Instead of packing such materials in plastic bags, I would suggest using little toiletry bags or non-plastic bags. Certain new objects that are still wrapped in plastic can have the plastic removed and disposed of safely and appropriately. Carrying as little plastic as possible will help you avoid having to transport it across borders.

  1. Packed Lunches.

You may be given a packed lunch or snacks for certain excursions that are anticipated to take several hours so that you can eat during the game drive, walk, or climb. Although uncommon, this may occur on your own safari. Like any packed lunch, the lids occasionally get lost or forgotten. You have to be careful when packing a lunch since anything you leave behind could contaminate a natural habitat. With a few exceptions, most safaris are scheduled so that meals are had at your lodge or at a restaurant along the route. Hiking and gorilla trekking are very demanding safari activities, so it’s usually a good idea to pack a basic snack. You must use the same vigilance in these situations to ensure that nothing is left behind. Not the food itself, and most definitely not the plastic container it came in.

  1. Plastic free- safari : Fabric Bags.

There are innumerable locations throughout the African continent where you may get fabric bags, or kitenge, for extremely low prices. You can use these to transport souvenirs, gifts, and personal items. If you are unable to obtain fabric bags, try using paper bags instead, as they are environmentally friendly and can be reused multiple times.

  1. Biodegradable Materials.

A wide variety of biodegradable materials are available for daily usage. A few are quite pertinent to your safari in Uganda. Things like cotton buds, razors, and toothbrushes, among others. These products are used for shorter amounts of time before being thrown away and ending up in the environment. For instance, the annual usage of plastic toothbrushes is thought to exceed 3.6 billion. And eighty percent of those are disposed away improperly, ending up in waterways. The quantity of plastic is decreased when one is aware of such commonplace goods.

  1. Proper Disposal.

The appropriate disposal of plastics comes last. It is difficult to survive in the modern world without plastic, which is why it is crucial that we dispose of plastic in the most environmentally friendly methods possible. Plastic can be readily recycled or destroyed when disposed of correctly for future usage. Ask the staff to demonstrate or assist you in properly disposing of plastic garbage if you are at the lodge. Keep the garbage in the car while travelling with our safari guide, and let them know to take care of it at the next stop.
