The Mara Triangle is in the southwestern part of the Maasai Mara national Reserve, Kenya and is managed by the not-for-profit organization, the Mara Conservancy on behalf of Trans Mara County Council. Divided from the rest of the Maasai Mara National Reserve by the Mara River, the Mara Triangle is less visited and less crowded, with a fairly good concentration of the Kenya wildlife safari all the year-round including the Big five (lion, buffalo, elephant, rhino, leopard) and it has diverse plains ‘game’ like the hyena, cheetah, jackal, wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, water buck and many other animal species.
Mara triangle is one of the great area where herds of the great migration enter and do exit the Maasai Mara National Reserve from the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, making it one of the prime viewing safari with a mazing locations for this wildlife spectacle. Crossings of the Mara River are world-renown for being particularly dramatic, featuring in many wildlife documentaries such as the Wild Africa and Big Cat Diary. Mara Triangle covers an area of 510 square kilometers that includes the seasonal Marshes, forests, open savannahs and many other diversified habitats hence giving high concertation of different animal and bird species, even if the Mara triangle is most famous but it remains one of the remote conservancies in the Maasai Mara reserve.
Due to the superb location of the Mara Triangle, animals freely wander between the neighboring wildernesses, however, the Mara River acts as a natural fence that keeps most of the wildlife in the triangle. This outback also boasts an incredible, diverse landscape that includes the rivers, streams, swamps, plains, volcanic features and many others, the region sees fewer visitors than the other river-divided of the reserve. The aim with the management of the Mara Triangle are to reduce poaching, improving infrastructures and run community projects that strengthen conservation.
If you are looking to escape the crowds of the reserve, The Mara Triangle is the one that makes up one third of the entire national reserve, should be your Maasai Mara safari destination of choice, the concentration of game in the Mara Triangle is excellent safari with all the exciting species that you find in the rest of the national reserve and it sees fewer visitors than the rest of the reserve due to its remoteness, the fact that there are only two access gates and because there is only one lodge, one camp and some campsites located within the sector, it’s an excellent safari area to watch the drama of the Great Migration unfold without the masses of other vehicles elsewhere in the reserve as the herds of animals move through the sector on their way into and out of the Maasai Mara from the Serengeti.

There is a launch site for the hot air ballooning safari in the Mara Triangle, and this airborne activity should not be missed by the guests. The flying high above the plains of the Mara as the sun turns the landscapes golden and being able to do wildlife spotting from the air is such a mazing experience that you will never forget, the hot air balloon flight can be organized in your camp or lodge.
Mara Triangle offers a unique safari experience that you cannot do anywhere else in the national reserve, camping in the wilderness, you will need to be self-sufficient, with your own food water and firewood and to be cautious about wild animals entering your campsite, but if you are up for adventure, there is no better way to experience the magic of the bush that this.
