LARSENS CAMP  – SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE

Larsens camp is located in Kenya’s famous Samburu National Reserve is named after Erik Ole Larsen, a legendary Dane credited with the defining the luxury safari under the canvans. The camp is bordered by the Ewaso Nyiro River on one side and nothing to see but the pristine nature on the other three. Accommodation.

The generally sized, mounted on a river stone plinth and sheltered by a natural thatch roof, each of the 20 tents offers either the King –sized bed or the two twin beds. At the back of the tent is a luxury ensuite bathroom (24- hour hot water, power shower and flush WC), tastefully furnished with antique-styled safari furniture, each tent offers a dressing area, seating area and its own private veranda overlooking the river. The tents are provided with 24-hour electricity, during the night the winding paths that link them to the central dining area are softly lit by traditional safari hurricane lanterns full valet, lauary and in- let room services are all provided.

Dining.

Larsens camp gives you the best birding spots for different bird species for over 100 species in a day forexample the rare Somali Ostrich, Secretary birds, Vulturine guinea fowls while along the river storks fee and sand grouse congregate at dusk, both the red- billed and Von der Deckens’s hornbills are common. The rugged nature of the reserve also provides an ideal raptor habitat like the pygmy falcons, martial eagles and the Verreaux’s eagle owls that is for those who would like to learn more about them, the resident naturalist offers guided nature walks at 10 am daily. The camp also gives the best view of the wilderness, as you know Samburu is famous of the wildlife like the Samburu special five, big cats and the big nine, typically there are game drives set off 6:30 am and 4:30 pm and can be timed to coincide with a bush breakfast, sundowners on the river or dinner watching the elephants as they come down to bathe.
