Kitulo National Park : Locals also refer to the Kitulo National Park as “The Garden of God,” and botanists refer to it as “The Serengeti of Flowers.” The park is home to approximately 350 different species, including 45 different types of terrestrial orchids, which during the rainy season create a floral display. The greatest montane grassland in Tanzania is supported by the well-watered volcanic soils of the Poroto and Livingstone Mountains, which together occupy an area of 412.9 km2.
Animals in kitulo national park
The uncommon chimpanzee, zebra, chameleon, lizard, kipunji monkey, frogs, spiders, and other tiny insects that are native to the park are all found in Kitulo National Park, along with a variety of other animals. Three restricted-range mammal species—the endangered Kipunji, Rungwe dwarf Galago, and Abbott’s duiker—call the Livingstone Forest home. The woodlands of adjacent Mount Rungwe are home to all three species as well.
Flora in kitulo national park
350 plant species, including several ground orchids, geophytes, and other Afro alpine plants, may be found in the Kitulo montane grasslands. Three species, Brachystelma kituloensis, Impatiens rosulata, and Pterygodium ukingense, are exclusive to the Kitulo Plateau, whereas many are restricted to the Kipengere Range and other highlands.
The park’s south-west-facing slope is covered in the montane, evergreen Livingstone forest. It is also the largest forest block in the Kipengere Range and the largest in the park. Between the upper montane forests and the high altitude grasslands are bamboo (Yushania alpina) tangles. This area is also home to the Bujingijila Gap, a little swath of farmland and tree plantations that divides the Livingstone Forest from the woodlands of Mount Rungwe.

Why visit ?
The Kitulo Plateau, tucked between the craggy peaks of the Kipengere, Poroto, and Livingstone Mountains, can be reached via safari at Kitulo National Park. With its distinctive landscape, Kitulo is more similar to northern Tanzania’s Ngorongoro and Serengeti natural park. However, large mammals are uncommon in Kitulo, with the exception of a few mountain reedbuck and eland.
More people visit Kitulo Plateau National Park for the breathtaking floral panorama on exhibit, which is a favorite of nature enthusiasts and honeymooning couples. But the wide variety of flora, animals, and insects makes up for it, and the Kitulo Plateau serves as a year-round natural resting place for migratory birds traveling across continents to Europe.
