This is the best way to explore the fresh water lake of Naivasha known for its large population of Hippos and flamingo .It is estimated that the lake has more than 1500 hippos, which one is almost guaranteed to see on the boat ride in Lake Naivasha. The boat rides are always done by experienced local guides with the boats capacity ranging between 6 to 20 people. There are also available more medium boats of about 6 to 12 seater boats which are easy to manoeuvre around the lake. All the boat rides, it is mandatory for boarders to wear life jackets for safety reasons of the passengers on the boats.
The boat rides usually takes one hour and the morning sessions begins at around 7 am to 11 am ,while the afternoon sessions begin at 2 pm to 4pm. The boat rides are avoided in the late afternoons and evenings because during this times the lake tends to be rough.
It is free to access lake Naivasha however there are private Conservancies that extends to part of the lake which charge conservancy fee at the entrance. During the boat rides in the crescent island one can explore the abundant wildlife and birds sanctuary on the eastern side of Lake Naivasha. Hiking Mount Longonot
The park has an area of 52 km² and is located southeast of Lake Naivasha. The mountain was formed from viscous and sticky lava that does not flow easily. The lava then accumulates around the vent forming a volcano with steep sides. The park distance from the nearby town of Naivasha is 27.2 kilometres and 74.4 kilometres from Nairobi.
If you are hiking mount longonot for the first time it is recommended that you be accompanied by guides. At the parks gate there is a community guides who have been approved by the Kenya wildlife service the body that govern the Kenyan parks.
The maximum elevation of Mount Longonot is 2770 Metres and this is one of the moderate hiking safaris suitable for everyone including children who are seven years and above. It takes 4 to 6 hours for a complete hike at Mount Longonot, the hiking safari from the gate entrance to the rom of the mountain is approximately 3.1 trail . Mount longonot Park operates everyday from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm ,they also charge entrance fee paid at the entrance or the gate to Mount longonot. The park fees are ksh 250 for adult citizen while children pay ksh 200. Non residents adults pay US$20 and children US$15.
Cycling at Hell’s Gate National Park
Hell’s Gate National Park is named after a narrow break in the cliffs, once a tributary of a prehistoric lake that fed early humans in the Rift Valley. The park was established in 1984 and it is one of the small national park but highly visited National parks in Kenya, it is known for its wide variety of wildlife and for its awesome scenery. This includes the Fischer’s Tower and Central Tower columns and Hell’s Gate Gorge. The Fischer’s tower located in the North of the park is amazing place for the rock climbing. It was named after a German explorer Gustav Fischer who was sent to find a shorter route from Mombasa to Lake Victoria. This is a perfect place for rock climbing in the park and from here one can enjoy the scenic from the Gorges, the cliffs and the wildlife in the park.
