Detailed itinerary of the 8 days Uganda Safari

Day 1: Murchison Falls National Park

To mark the start of your safari, you will be picked from your hotel in Entebbe or Kampala by the representative of Petnah Africa Tours and travel who will be your driver- guide throughout the safari. He will give you a short briefing about the safari and what to expect, then embark on a journey to Murchison Falls national park.

Have a stopover at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for a 2 hours rhino tracking experience for a walk with the rhinos in their nature habitat, then proceed to Masindi where you will have lunch. Then head to Murchison Falls national park and upon arriving in the park, you will go for a visit to the top of the falls where you will get spectacular of the falls as they squeeze through the rocks. Had to your lodge, check in for dinner and overnight stay.

Today’s main activities – rhino tracking and visit the top of the falls

Day 2: Murchison Falls-game drive, launch trip & hike to the top of the falls

Have breakfast and head to the park for a 3-4 hours game drive along the Northern bank of River Nile, this area hosts several wildlife including elephants, hartebeests, buffaloes, giraffes, oribis, lions, leopards, waterbucks, Uganda kobs and many birds which you will enjoy watching.

Later return to the lodge for lunch, in the afternoon you will go for a boat cruise along the Nile taking 2-3 hours, during this activity expect to have the best of panoramic views at the bottom of the falls, many bird like kingfishers, bee –eaters, fish eagles and animals such as hippos, crocodiles, elephants among others. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Queen Elizabeth National Park (QENP)

Depart for Queen Elizabeth national park via Fort Portal where you will enjoy a leisurely lunch, proceed to the park and with a short en-route game drive you will head to your lodge, check in, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 4: Game drive, boat cruise

Have early breakfast and head to the park for a game drive along the Kasenyi sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park for 3-4 hours, during the game drive you will encounter lots of mammals such as buffaloes, lions, bush elephants, bush bucks, leopards, warthogs and lots of birds and antelopes.

Have lunch at your lodge, in the afternoon you have a boat cruise on Kazinga channel lasting for 2-3 hours. As you sail on this natural channel connecting Lake Edward to Lake George you will be able to see hundreds of hippos, crocodiles, birds among others.

Day 5: Game drive Ishasha & transfer to Bwindi

Head to the Ishasha sector for a morning game drive searching for the tree-climbing lions, after transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park arriving in afternoon. Have lunch and have an evening of chilling at the lodge.

Gorilla TGrekking in Bwindi National Park

Day 6: Gorilla trekking

Wake up early for breakfast and head to park for gorilla trekking the highlight of the safari, you will join other trekkers on the park headquarters for briefing between 07:00 am and 08:00 am. The briefing is headed by a senior ranger and you are taken through the rules and regulations to follow while in the presence of mountain gorillas.

You will be assigned a gorilla family to trek and in groups of 8 people you will head into the forest in search for mountain gorillas, the trek takes approximately 4-6 hours depending on the gorilla family you are trekking and when you find of them. You will spend one hour in their presence observing and watching the gorillas go on with their daily life, you can take picture as long as your flashlight is off.

Head back to the park’s headquarters to collect your permits and then return to your lodge, in the evening you can either relax or visit the Batwa pygmies who lived in the forest of Bwindi for thousands of years. The visit will offer you an in-depth learning about their cultures and traditions. Have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 7: Lake Bunyonyi

After a leisure breakfast, you will transfer to Lake Bunyonyi the deepest lake and the second deepest in Africa reached on a drive of 2 hours,  Lake Bunyonyi has 29 islands that spread on it and has a depth range of 44 meters and 900 meters. Visiting Lake Bunyonyi, you will explore the lake on boat ride, visit any of the islands while sighting several species of birds, you can also swim in waters of the lake.

Day 8: Depart

Depart from Lake Bunyonyi for Kampala with en-route stopover at the Equator crossing and lunch in Mbarara, upon arrival in Kampala you will be dropped off either at the hotel or at the airport for your flight back home.
