5 luxury Zanzibar restaurants : The island of Zanzibar has a name that makes you think of mystery, spices, and hot weather in the tropics. It’s all of these and more. It’s probably where you’ll want to go to the beach if you’ve been on vacation in Kenya or Tanzania. On the island, there are many all-inclusive beach resorts, but for the more daring, there is a historic tropical island to explore and meals to eat. Here is the list of five restaurants that are either tasty or in interesting safari destinations.
Our list of the Top 5 restaurants in Zanzibar is as follows;
- Mercury’s Bar.
This seafood restaurant is the only one in town with a seaside setting and views of the harbor. It is named after the lead singer of the band Queen. The food is simpler than gourmet, but the setting and cold drinks more than make up for it.
- Mangapwani Beach Grill and Restaurant.
On the less-developed northwest Zanzibar Island, near the famous Mangapwani Slave Caves, this is a great destination to explore on your safari to hang out while you wait for your grilled seafood on the beach. If you can picture yourself sipping a fresh cocktail on a white tropical beach with clear blue water, you have reached your goal.
- The Rock.
It is on the Michamwi Pingwe peninsula in the southeast of the island, about 45 minutes from Stone Town. In a short amount of time, this restaurant has become a popular destination for tourists to go when they visit Zanzibar. As the name suggests, this thatched restaurant is placed on a rocky outcrop. When the tide is low, you can walk to it, but when the tide is high, you have to take a boat. The seafood is great, but the pasta and other international dishes are also shockingly good. Costs a lot for Zanzibar, but every bit is worth it.
- Mtoni Marine’s Restaurant and Sports Bar.
This restaurant on the beach is just outside of Stone Town, and the Mtoni Palace is a short walk away. It has a casual vibe and is popular with both locals and visitors, but dining on a beach by candlelight with your toes in the soft white sand is always a treat. Highly recommended.
- Terrace Seafood Restaurant.
One of the best restaurants on the island in terms of food. The restaurant is on the roof terrace of a building in Stone Town. It has a great range of freshly caught seafood and a view of the bay. Expect to pay foreign prices, but neither the quality nor the location will let you down.
