Detailed itinerary of 10 Days (North Serengeti Migration)
Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire. Game drives in Tarangire
Start your safari around 7:00 AM from Arusha and drive to Tarangire National Park with packed lunch boxes, the journey is about 2.5 hours drive away. Once you arrive in the park, start game drive.
Tarangire National Park is known for its majestic baobab trees that dot the landscape, dwarfing the animals that feed beneath them. The Tarangire River is the centerpiece of the park and is famous for some of the largest herds of elephants in Africa. Here you will see many lions, leopards, cheetahs, lesser kudu, buffaloes, oryx, eland, giraffes and zebras. Have lunch and continue with game drives till around 5:00 PM or so. Later head back to your camp/lodge where a delicious dinner awaits you.
Day 2: Transfer to Lake Manyara for game drives
Have early breakfast and drive to Lake Manyara National Park with packed lunch boxes. From Tarangire, the Manyara Gate is about 30 minutes’ drive away. Once you reach the park, we start game drive.
As you enter the national park, lush forests of Acacia and Mahogany trees begin to set the mood for what is waiting a head and with a small break for picnic lunch. During the game drive in Lake Manyara watch out for buffaloes, giraffes, impalas, baboons and the blue monkeys, tree climbing lions. However spotting them is a game of lunch. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Transfer to Lake Natron for Bird Watching/Flamingo Walk
Begin your day with breakfast by 8:00 AM. Depart with packed lunch boxes towards Lake Natron located about 3.5 hours’ drive away from Mto Wa Mbu/Manyara. Lake Natron is a surreal destination and unique natural spectacle, its waters are highly alkaline and are usually shallow, averaging just one meter in depth. After checking into your lodge and a short break, go for a guided walk with the Maasai tribesman taking you on a walk around the shores of Lake Natron on the lookout for birds, especially the lesser flamingoes.
Day 4: Lake Natron (Ngare Sero waterfalls visit) and transfer to Northern Serengeti
Your day starts early, around 6:00 Am, accompanied by a Maasai guide, enjoy some light hiking to the nearby Ngare Sero waterfalls and relax in the cool spray of water cascading down the rocks of this scenic ravine.
Return to your accommodation for breakfast, then depart for Serengeti National Park. This road trip takes you through variety of sites, towns and villages, savannah and forest, and you will be able to spot animals like antelopes, wildebeests and zebras. Enter Serengeti in the afternoon and drive towards North Serengeti, you will have an afternoon game drive in the endless plains of the Serengeti for a chance to see the great herds of wildebeests, zebras and gazelles or a pride of lions lounging in the shade.
A picnic lunch will be served during the day long game drive itself, at the end of the day, return to the lodge for dinner and a good night’s rest at your accommodation.
Day 5: North Serengeti – Full day game drives
Depart for full day game drives around 8:00 Am with packed lunch and return back to the lodge late afternoon around 6:00 PM. Or you can depart at 6:00 Am on an early morning game drive. Later return to the lodge for breakfast and relax for a bit and depart on an afternoon game drive with packed lunch.
In the months between mid-June to September the migration can be found in the region offering the most dramatic river crossing of the great migration. Fierce, deep and heavily rain feed Mara River takes an enormous toll on the migrating wildebeests.
Day 6-7: Morning game drives in North Serengeti and transfer to Central Serengeti
Have breakfast and depart for game drives around 6:00 Am on an early morning game drive. Later return to accommodation for breakfast and relax for a bit and depart to Central Serengeti with packed. The four hour drive to the Central Serengeti will offer mild en-route game drive, the drive south from the Mara River Valley takes you through hill country, the Lobo Area, woodlands and then back into Seronera terrain. The Central part of the Serengeti know as The Seronera Area is one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park, it features the Seronera River, which provides a valuable water source in the area and therefore attracts wildlife.
Day 8: Morning game drives in Serengeti and afternoon transfer to Ngorongoro/Karatu
After early breakfast, depart at around 6:30 AM and have en-route game drive in Central Serengeti as you depart for Ngorongoro, have en-route lunch and head to your accommodation in Karatu for check-in, dinner and overnight.
Day 9: Ngorongoro crater tour (5 hours) in the morning and afternoon transfer to Arusha
After an early breakfast, descend to the crater floor for game drive lasting 5 hours. Expect to see lions, elephants, zebras, hippos, hyenas, jackals, rhinos and many birds. The birds seen here include eagle, vulture, flamingos in the Crater Lake, storks, giant vulture, and many more.
Enjoy picnic lunch at the beautiful Hippo Pool, you will begin a steep ascend to the top exit of the crater, after exploring the crater floor, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 10: Visit to Materuni falls, chagga tribe and coffee plantation tour and drop at Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport
Upon arrival, you will go for a 35 minutes hike to the waterfalls. If weather is clear, we might get decent views of Mt. Kilimanjaro on this day. Make sure to wear good boots as the trail can be often muddy. The Pool at the bottom of the water fall is a good place for a refreshing swim, after the hike 25 minutes back from the waterfalls afterward you will join a local tribe with whom you will explore the coffee-making process and get to processes your own cup of coffee.
Later you will be driven either back to the hotel in Arusha or to the airport. With an incredible experience and loads of memories to cherish, our tour comes to an end.
