Detailed itinerary of 10 Days Rwanda Classic Safari
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to your hotel in Kigali
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport or after breakfast at your hotel in Kigali, you will be welcomed and picked up by our guide. Depending on the time of your arrival, you will go for a short city tour in Kigali City and visit the genocide memorial site.
Dinner and overnight stay at Steptown Hotel for Budget, Des Milles Collins Hotel for Mid-range, Kigali Serena Hotel for Luxury.
Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park, En-route Activities
After morning breakfast, you will transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Along the way you will pass through wonderful and magnificent hills and cultivated countryside, have a stopover at the Royal King’s Palace in Nyanza for a cultural description about the history of Rwanda.
Continue and visit the Cultural Museum in Rwesero, proceed to Butare Town where you will have lunch. Then visit the Rwanda National Museum for a tour around the site, proceed to Nyungwe National Park where you will arrive in late afternoon hours. Check in at the lodge, spend the rest of the day relaxing, have dinner and stay overnight at Gisakura Visitor’s Centre for Budget, Nyungwe TopHill View for Mid-range, Kivu Marina Bay for Luxury
Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking Experience
Have early morning breakfast and head to the park headquarters in Nyungwe Forest for briefing before going for chimpanzee trekking, you are advised to pack lunch and plenty of water prior to this adventure since it sometimes last over 6 hours. While in the forest, you will not only see chimpanzee but also a variety of animals and birds such as Rwenzori Turacco, black and white casqued horn bill, colobus monkeys. Return to your lodge in late afternoon, have dinner and overnight as above.
Day 4: Relaxed Morning, Afternoon Canopy Walk
Wake up at your leisure and enjoy breakfast at the lodge, spend the morning at leisure, take a swim in the pool or spa if you wish. Enjoy lunch and then head out and embark on a canopy walk – a swing bridge 50 meters in length that is suspended from large trees. While on the canopy, you will be able to have an eye’s view of the amazing rainforest, spot olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys among others.
Return to the lodge and spend the evening at leisure. Dinner and overnight stay as above.
Day 5: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park, Evening Iby’Iwacu Experience
Enjoy breakfast, checkout of the hotel and transfer to Ruhengeri. Enroute, you will visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural village where you will have a wonderful and interactive experience about the Rwandan traditions, culture and way of life.
Proceed to the park reach in late evening, have dinner and overnight at Muhabura Hotel for Budget, Da Vinci Gorilla Lodge for Mid-range, Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel for Luxury.
Day 6: Golden Monkey tracking
After breakfast, you will head to the park for golden monkey tracking. You will join other visitors at the park’s headquarters for briefing and head into the forests looking for golden monkeys, this activity takes about 2-3 hours with one hour of being in presence of the golden monkeys.
Later return back to your lodge for early lunch and spend the afternoon at leisure, relax at your lodge. Take a city walk in the evening around Ruhengeri.

Day 7: Gorilla trekking in Parc National Des Volcans
Have early breakfast and head to the park’s headquarters for briefing about gorilla trekking from the RBD officials, in groups of 8 people you will be assigned a gorilla family to trek and head into the forests looking for mountain gorillas. The trek takes approximately 2 to 6 hours or more depending on the movement of mountain gorillas, you will move up and down the rugged terrain until you finally meet these beautiful gentle giants that you will observe for 1 hour.
Along the trek, you will spot monkeys as well as bird species. Return to the lodge for lunch and relax for the rest of the afternoon, have dinner and overnight stay.
Day 8: Transfer back to Kigali and to Akagera National Park &Afternoon Game Drive
After breakfast, you will depart for Kigali for lunch and also a short city tour to the Gisozi Genocide Memorial Site. Later, you will transfer to Akagera National Park. Along the way you will pass through the country’s phenomenal landscape which give you scenic views of the country’s beauty and the life style of its people.
Upon arrival, you will go for an afternoon game drive in the Southern section of the park. Lookout for animals such as elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, hippos, crocodiles and many antelopes. Head to your lodge for check in, have dinner and overnight at Karenge Bush Camp for Budget, Akagera Game Lodge for Mid-range, Rusizi Tented Lodge for Luxury.
Day 9: Morning game drive and Boat ride on Lake Ihema
Have early breakfast and head to the Northern Circuit game drive to search for animals that you might have missed on the previous game drive. You will spot some early risers that can only be seen in the morning.
Return to the lodge for a short rest as you wait for lunch, after lunch you will go for a boat ride on Lake Ihema on which you will enjoy scenic views of the surrounding areas, hills and swamps. Expect to see hippos, crocodiles and many bird species. Return back to your lodge for dinner and overnight as above.
Day 10: Departure
Have early breakfast and go for a nature walk in search for different bird species, then exit the park and embark on a journey back to Kigali City. You will be dropped off either at your hotel in Kigali or at the airport for your flight back home.
